FT Chapter 15 (World Consecration to Immaculate Heart of Mary) (Post for Friday, September 8)

FT Chapter 15 (World Consecration to Immaculate Heart of Mary)

Totus Tuus (Totally Yours) a reference to total consecration to Our Lady which John Paul II made many years before becoming Pope.  He placed the M on his Coat of Arms as a reminder of his devotion and consecration to Our Lady.

On May 13, 1981, John Paul II was shot in an attempted assassination.  He survived and soon realized that it happened on the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady in Fatima.  He asked to see the third secret of Fatima (Fatima for Today, 166).  With that information, Pope John Paul II tried a few times to consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, but not in union with the bishops of the world.  He finally did it on March 25, 1984 in union with the bishops of the world (Fatima for Today, 170).

Soon after Pope John Paul II made the consecration in union with the bishops of the world, there was some debate about whether the consecration had taken place.  The consecration took place!  We have Sr. Lucia’s words stating this, “’I’ve already said that the consecration Our lady wished for was performed in 1984, and that it was accepted by Heaven’” (Fatima for Today, 176).  What more needs to be said on this subject.

Thank God for Sr. Lucia and St. John Paul II in doing what Our Lady requested.  Now if only we would make sure that we complete the Five First Saturdays Devotion.  Than both parts of what Our Lady requested will have been completed.
