Today, I am writing about the sixth Spiritual Works of Mercy.  This is one of the harder Spiritual Works of Mercy.  Last week I wrote about Forgiving Injuries.  That is tough too, but there is something about having to bear wrongs patiently that is tough as well.  I think of Job and the book about him in the Bible.  Talk about bearing wrongs patiently!!!  Job is a great example to us all.  This is when we need to totally bring the Trinity into the situation.  We cannot bear wrongs patiently on our own!!!  It is not something that we have the strength to do.  We have to have the help of God.  Only He can give us the strength to make it through.  Holding our tongue, not striking back, are difficult in the best of situations, let alone when we are in a situation where it is very, very difficult to do anything that would not be vengeful or getting even.  Beg God to help.

BEARING WRONGS PATIENTLY

Do not be bitter about wrongs done against you.  Place your hope in God so that you can endure the troubles of this world and face them with a compassionate spirit.

  • Frustrated with someone? Step away from the situation, take a few deep breaths, pray the Our Father, asking God for patience

 Excerpt of USCCB.org

So how do we bring God into this situation.  First, we must tell him about the pain and hurt that we are suffering.  He needs to hear about it.  Remember to think of the pain, to be aware of the hurt and to acknowledge is the first step, but if that is where we stay, than we are not bringing him into it.  To take the next step, we must will our hurt and suffering over to God.  Tell Him about it.  Tell Him everything.  Doing these things will help us bear wrongs patiently, but we will not be perfect at it, it will take practice.
