August 23, 2015

I will be leaving this Tuesday, August 25, for Kenya.  I will be leaving very early in the morning.  I will return late on Thursday, September 10.  Fr. George Zeck, a very good friend of mine who is retired, will be here to cover the Masses on the weekends that I am away.   Enjoy having him here.  During my time away, there will be emergency coverage, just call the office, and Carolyn will be checking messages throughout the day.  Know that I will be praying for y’all while I am away.  Please pray for me.   If you want to know what I will be doing in Kenya; I know that I will be spending time with Fr. Gabriel’s family, but other than that I will be there on vacation.

This weekend the Gospel tells us “As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.”  Jesus had detractors, Jesus offended people.  We are going to struggle with what Jesus has to say to us at times.  Yes, the Gospel is Good News.  But sometimes the Good News of Jesus Christ is going to make us uncomfortable.  If we are comfortable with Jesus, that normally means that something is not right in our lives.  Are we looking for the easy way?  Then following Jesus is the wrong place.  Are we looking for eternal life?  Then follow Jesus, live like Jesus, trust in Jesus.  This is what most be done.  If Jesus says something is true, it is true, and if Jesus tells us to follow Him, than we must follow him.  So are we going to completely follow Him with our lives and leave our old lives behind?
