January 25, 2015

This week, Bishop Paul Sirba forwarded a letter he received from Bishop Francis Kalabat who is the Chaldean Bishop of St. Thomas in the United States.  He is asking for our prayers for Christians who are suffering in the Middle East, especially in Iraq and Syria.   In the letter he says, “[Christians] have been forced out of their homes and many were martyred for their faith.”  The situation there for Christians is not good and it keeps getting worse.  What they are asking for is our prayers asking for God to bless and ease the situation there.  Bishop Kalabat says, “I invite you to join us during the last nine days of our Marian prayers, from January 25th to February 2nd.  We hope that this nine-day Rosary novena will shed hope and light on our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering exile from the homeland because of their faith.”  So we are being given an opportunity to help our brothers and sisters with our prayers.  Could we not say the Rosary for nine days asking God to help them?

Reminder that the parish Mission is this coming week.  I am greatly looking forward to having Brendan Case here.  Please try to make all of the mission activities as these are planned to help us grow closer to God.  Each session will be different.  There will not be repeats. And this is not just for our parishes, others people are of course very, very welcome to come.  Please invite family and friends to come.  Be not afraid.
