The Second of the Corporal Works of Mercy is to give drink to the Thirsty.  There may not be many people who are thirsty up here, and yet this is what we are  called to do.  I really appreciate what the Bishops have written here as it give us ways to help those who are thirsty.  We are called to take care of those in need who are thirsty.

GIVE DRINK TO THE THIRSTY

Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ do not have access to clean water and suffer from the lack of this basic necessity.  We should support the efforts of those working towards greater accessibility of this essential resource.

  • We take it for granted that we have access to clean water.  Donate. . . to help build wells for water for those in need.
  • Organize a group of children involved on a sports team (e.g. soccer) or a summer camp. Invite them to collect bottled water to distribute at a shelter for families. If parents can be involved, ask them to accompany their children in delivering the water to the families.
  • Do the same for youth and young adult groups.
  • Make an effort not to waste water. Remembering to turn off the water faucet when you are brushing your teeth or washing dishes can help, especially in regions suffering from drought.

Excerpt of USCCB.org

There are so many things happening these days, I encourage us all to bring all of this to the Lord.  We have so many things pulling us in many different directions, and life is happening at a much faster pace.  We need the Lord.

Please pray for an end of violence in the world as well.  It was sad to see the news about the mass shooting in Orlando.  Such senseless violence.  It makes no sense.  Pray for the repose of the souls of those who have died and for all who were injured and their families.
