TC Day 10 (Continued Belief)

Day 10

Early picture of me posing for baseball

Once when I was younger I had a baseball game, it went well and when the game was over, I realized I had no ride home.  Both of my parents were at the game, but neither of them communicated with each other.  They both presumed and assumed that the other was taking me home so I was left.  Now my Mom was giving a teammate and his sister a ride home, but there was no communication about what to do with poor old me.  Thankfully my coach was able to give me a ride home.

In order for us to be totally given to God, we have got to communicate with Him and do all that He asks us to do.  We can’t just presume that because we have made this Total Consecration to Our Lady that we will now automatically go to Heaven.  That is just foolishness!  “Presumptuous devotees are sinners who give full reign to their passions or their love of the world, and who, under the fair name of Christian and servant of our Lady, conceal pride, avarice, lust, drunkenness, anger, swearing, slandering, injustice and other vices” (Preparation for Total Consecration, 37).  We have to keep trying to grow in our relationship with God every single day.  It doesn’t end with our consecration.

Having a relationship with Mary helps this to happen.  She brings us to Jesus; she doesn’t want us to be lost.  Thus if the virtues are not being lived more in our lives, we are probably not following the Lord as we should.  Yes, there can be setbacks, but as a rule we should be making progress toward God.  We stifle our growth when we believe: “God is good and merciful, they reply, and he has not made us to damn us.  We will not die without confession and a good act of contrition at death is all that is needed” (Preparation for Total Consecration, 37-38).  We are reading into the words of God what we want to rather than entering into a relationship with Him and hearing Him speak to us.  This is mighty dangerous place to be.  Presumption is extremely dangerous for us and it doesn’t allow us to give ourselves totally to God.  Rather, presumption places our trust in ourselves!
