TC Day 13 (Faithfulness to God)

Day 13

Boy Scouts taught me a lot about hard work and showed me how to be a leader.  At every meeting we would say the Scout Oath:

On my honor, I will do my best

To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times;

To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

As a scout I promised to do these things.  I was expected to live up to these as best as I could.  No, I wasn’t perfect at it, nor will I ever be, but the point of the matter was to do our best.  That is how we work at living in God’s will and being totally consecrated to Him, that is, by doing our best with God’s grace.

So what is my word worth?  When I make a promise, shouldn’t my yes mean yes and my no mean no?  At least that is what scripture tells us to do.  So we are now entering the week of self-knowledge.  We may notice by now that there are areas in our lives that are not exactly centered on God.  We may be noticing that we are works in progress.  Yes, we made Baptismal Promises.  We made this promise to serve God alone.  “’The vow we make at baptism is the most important of all vows’” (Preparation for Total Consecration, 54).  If it is that important, don’t we think that we should have a little more focus on living this promise out?  All of us have work to do in this area.

Here is the renewal of the Baptismal Promises; it would be good for us for the rest of the work of preparation for the Total Consecration to renew this daily.

Renew of Baptismal Promises:

Do you reject Satan?

  • I DO

And all his works?

  • I DO

And all his empty show?

  • I DO

Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth?

  • I DO

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death and was buried, rose again from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father?

  • I DO

Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting?

  • I DO
