TC Day 5 (Path to Heaven)

Day 5

We all want the easiest, quickest, fastest, widest way to Heaven. We want a highway.  We want lots of choices, and we want it to go the way we want it to go.  But there isn’t a highway to God.  There isn’t a wide path.  There is only the path that Jesus gives us; the path to Calvary, the path that isn’t easy.  We really just want the highway of our will.  But there is no highway to Heaven; rather it is a highway to hell.

The path to God is rocky, difficult, and there will be trials. St. Louis De Montfort asks some questions today to help us figure out if we are on the highway that leads to eternal death, or the narrow path that lead to eternal life.  “Are you walking along the true way of life, which is the narrow and stony way of Calvary” (Preparation for Total Consecration, 30)?  Hopefully we can say yes to this, but most of us have a part of us still on the highway, which means we are avoiding the path.  We need to ask the Holy Spirit to show us what we need to let go of.  The highway is where the world is at; instead we want to be on the path with God.  “Are you aware that there is a highway which is to all appearances a straight and safe road, but which really leads to eternal death” (Preparation for Total Consecration, 30)?  The highway gives us an illusion of what the end will be, but only the path truly leads us to peace, joy and love.  Stay on the path and on course in making this preparation.  It helps to lead us on the narrow path of Heaven.
