Humility: that is what is needed in prayer. St. Francis De Sales calls us to recall our need for God at the beginning of prayer. We totally need Him, He doesn’t need us! So to begin prayer with an act of humility is a good thing. Our good saint quotes from different Psalms in which there is a call for help. We are totally reliant on God (even if we don’t realize it). God is our all in all and He is helping us to come to pray. So as we begin to pray we ask Him to be with us and we remind ourselves that He is with us. Humility is always a good place to start.
PS. This fits in very well with the Mass readings this weekend.
